Knitting for Remembrance Day

Monday 07 November 2016

Three displays of knitted poppies can be seen hanging proudly from The lamppost on the Valley. Two more will shortly be put up at the Valley Community Gardens.

It’s all part of the Valley Knitting Group’s tribute for Remembrance Day, commemorating members of the armed forces who lost their lives in the line of duty.

Letters have been delivered to nearby houses to explain what the displays are for and invite people to attend the group’s weekly sessions.

The Valley Knitting Group was established earlier this year with support from City West to tackle loneliness and isolation on the Valley estate. Those attending have said that the knitting group has really helped with their depression and the aim now is to link in with other local knitting groups in the New Year.

The group is already thinking about Christmas, so keep an eye out for more beautiful knitted displays!
